Sam Grisman Project: The Music of Jerry Garcia and David Grisman at GPAC

“[The Sam Grisman Project] is bringing fresh authenticity, originality, and passion to the roots music and jam band scenes.” – The Bluegrass Situation

Sam Grisman grew up steeped in the music of his father, mandolinist and “Dawg music” pioneer David “Dawg” Grisman, and his close friend Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. Their timeless acoustic recordings not only encompass Sam’s oldest and fondest musical memories but also inspire him with the camaraderie as well as the love and joy that ooze out of each recording.

An accomplished musician in his own right, Grisman has been exposed to a wide variety of players and styles throughout every stage of his life, making him a highly sought-after bassist. He has accompanied performers such as Billy Strings, Lee Ann Womack, Eric Krasno, and many more. Grisman is honored to be joined onstage by fellow musicians and friends Ric Robertson (vocals, mandolin), Chris J. English (drums, vocals), and Aaron Lipp (guitar).

The Sam Grisman Project is a platform built by and for Grisman and his friends to showcase their genuine passion and appreciation for the legacy of his father, Garcia, and other musical icons. By playing some of these trailblazers’ beloved repertoire as well as original music from their collective, the Sam Grisman Project aims to show the impact that Dawg music has had on their own individual musical journeys. Rooted in a pure love for performance and connecting with audiences everywhere, the Sam Grisman Project is a modern-day beacon of a golden age of American music that is sure to captivate all listeners.
