Indian Vegetarian Cooking Series

Session III: Halwa, Chutneys and Vegetable Korma

  • Date: 05/17/2018 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Location: Bobby Lanier Farm Park
    2660 Cross Country Drive
    Germantown, Tennessee 38138
  • Introduction: Session III: Halwa, Chutneys and Vegetable Korma -- Dessert, chutneys and vegetable curry with nuts. Vegetable Korma is usually served with white rice.

Have you tried mouth-watering curries and other Indian dishes at restaurants and wanted to learn how to make them yourself? Now is your chance. This Indian cooking class focuses on vegetarian dishes. Learn how to use various spices and cooking techniques by watching dishes prepared in front of you. Ask questions and even taste the food.  Everyone will leave with printed recipes.

Your instructor for the series, Lata Surpuriya, came to the United States from Pune, India, in 1970. She's lived in Memphis for more than 40 years -- almost 30 of those in Germantown. Cooking is Lata's first passion, and sharing that passion with others is a close second. She taught Indian cooking classes through the University of Memphis Continuing Education program for 18 years, and often shares cooking tips and recipes with friends and family. Pre-registration is required.  Register online at Germantown-TN.gov.  For more information, contact Joni Roberts at (901) 498-8684 or JRoberts@Germantown-TN.gov.
