Germantown is governed by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, which comprises a Mayor and five Aldermen. Together, they make up the legislative branch of the City government.

Mayor Mike Palazzolo
Alderman Position 1 Scott Sanders
Alderman Position 2  and Vice Mayor Mary Anne Gibson
Aldermen Position 3 Sherrie Hicks
Alderman Positon 4 Brian Ueleke
Alderman Position 5 Jon McCreery

The Mayor and Aldermen are elected every four years, with staggered terms. Aldermen are elected at large. The elected officials take office on the third Monday in December. The Board includes a Vice-Mayor elected annually.

Qualifications for Office
To be eligible for the positions of Mayor or Alderman, a candidate must be a qualified voter in Tennessee, at least 25 years old at the time of election, and a resident of Germantown for at least 60 days preceding the election.

Meetings and Decision-Making
The Board sets the time and place of regular meetings through ordinance, ensuring public notice. A quorum, consisting of four Aldermen or the Mayor and three Aldermen, is required for decision-making. Meetings generally take place on the second and fourth Mondays of each month and are listed on the City calendar.

Ordinance Procedure
All ordinances must pass three readings. Amendments can be made up to the final reading. Public hearings are held before the third reading, with notices published and posted. Ordinances are effective upon final passage, signed by the Mayor, recorded by the City Clerk/Recorder, and made public.

Oath of Office
Before taking office, the Mayor, Aldermen, and City Judge(s) must take an oath to faithfully and honestly perform their duties.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen is dedicated to serving Germantown with transparency, accountability, and a commitment to the well-being of our community.
