Germantown is governed by the elected Board of Mayor and Aldermen, which comprises a Mayor and five Aldermen. Together, they make up the legislative branch of the City government.
Aldermen are elected at large, every four years, with staggered terms. The elected officials take office on the third Monday in December. The Board includes a Vice-Mayor elected annually.
Scott Sanders, currently in his second consecutive term as Alderman for Position 1, has been a dedicated public servant throughout his adult life. Elected in both 2018 and 2022, Sanders brings a wealth of experience to his role, having served as a police officer and United States Marshal until his retirement in 2017. A graduate of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro with a degree in criminology, Sanders' commitment to public service is evident in his longstanding contributions to the community.
A 2005 graduate of Leadership Germantown, Sanders has remained an active member of the Leadership Germantown Alumni Association for 18 years, holding various officer positions within the organization. Prior to his election as Alderman, he played a vital role on the Public Safety Education Commission for several years, showcasing his dedication to the well-being of the community.
Currently serving as a liaison to key boards including the ADA Access Review Board, Beautification Commission, Public Safety Education Commission, and Tree Board, Alderman Sanders is deeply engaged in addressing critical aspects of community development and safety.
Outside of his official duties, Sanders is a family man, married to Brenda, and a proud father of four grown children—Rebecca, Kellie, Scott, and Caitlin. As grandparents to three grandchildren, the Sanders family is actively involved in the Germantown community, with 24 years of residence and membership in the Germantown Church of Christ.
In addition to his civic responsibilities, Sanders is a Board member of the Germantown First Responders Scholarship Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the educational aspirations of children of police and fire personnel. Known for his diverse interests, Scott enjoys hunting, fishing, coin collecting, and volunteers his time with various local civic organizations during his spare moments.

Mary Anne Gibson, currently serving her third consecutive term as Alderman for Position 2, has been a steadfast presence in municipal leadership. Elected in 2014, 2018, and 2022, she brings a wealth of experience and commitment to the Germantown community. In addition to her role as Alderman, Gibson served as Vice Mayor in 2019 and has been re-appointed to the position each year since, further highlighting her dedication to public service.
A member of Germantown United Methodist Church, where she and her husband, Steve were married, Gibson is deeply rooted in the community. Together, they have three grown children—Morgan Gibson Day (Shane), Marshall Gibson (Lindsay), and Madison Gibson—and take pride in their role as grandparents to Junie Day.
Gibson's passion for education is evident in her advocacy for high-quality public education. She served as the District 5 Board Commissioner, representing Germantown on the Shelby County School Board during a pivotal transition period for Memphis City and Shelby County Schools students.
Her commitment to community service extends beyond education, with notable roles such as vice chairman of the Germantown Parks & Recreation Commission, chairman of the Farm Park Advisory Group, second vice president of Germantown United Methodist Women and executive board member of the Germantown Arts Alliance. As chairman of Bobby Lanier Farm Park Inc., a nonprofit organization advocating for the park's needs, Gibson plays a crucial role in setting high standards for quality of life in the City.
A multifaceted leader, Gibson is an Affiliate Broker with The Firm and an active member of the Memphis Area, Tennessee & National Association of Realtors, Women’s Council of Realtors, Accredited Buyer’s Council, and Multi Million Dollar Club. Her involvement in disaster relief coordination during the floods of 2010, confirmation coordination, Youth Advisory Council membership and her graduation from Leadership Germantown showcase her broad contributions to the community.
A recipient of the Jim Roberts Leadership Award in 2000 and the Tennessee Municipal League's 2022 Robert S. Kirk Outstanding Leadership Award, Alderman Gibson is recognized for her exceptional leadership qualities. Currently serving as liaison to the Board of Zoning Appeals, Economic Development Commission, Neighborhood Preservation Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission, Public Art Commission and a member of the Library Board, she continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the city's future.

Sherrie Hicks was elected in 2020 and is serving her first term as your Alderman for Position 3.
A graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin with a degree in marketing, Sherrie has over two decades of experience in medical device sales. Beyond her professional journey, Sherrie's heart lies in community service, with more than 25 years of active involvement in schools, neighborhoods, and City commissions.
As a former president of the Poplar Estates and Dogwood Grove Homeowners Associations, treasurer of the Houston High School PTSO, and president of the Houston Middle School PTA, her pride in our local community is evident.
Sherrie has served on the City's Design Review Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Planning Commission, ensuring an understanding of the City standards. Her graduation from Leadership Germantown in 2000 underscores her commitment to leadership development and community engagement.
She is a liaison to the Education Commission, the Historic Commission, and the Senior Citizen Advisory Commission and is a member of the Design Review Commission.
Sherrie and her husband, Steve, are members of Germantown United Methodist Church. Together, they've raised three sons who attended four of the public schools in Germantown.
When she's not busy with civic duties, Sherrie enjoys reading, boating, gardening, and even a bit of running. Grateful for her family's support, she is excited to give back and contribute to the betterment of Germantown.

Brian Ueleke, currently serving his first four-year term as Alderman for Position 4, brings years of experience and dedication to municipal leadership. Elected in 2020, Brian is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a Bachelor of Science in Finance, and holds a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Memphis. In his professional life, Brian has been with FedEx since 2003, contributing his expertise in corporate finance, including budgeting, capital projects, human resources and product development.
A Leadership Germantown graduate and the recipient of the 2019 Jim Roberts Award, Brian is actively involved in professional organizations such as the American Society for Quality and serves as a FedEx Quality Driven Management Expert. He is a former member of the Association for Financial Professionals and the Tennessee Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees).
Currently serving as liaison to the Audit Commission, Financial Advisory Commission, Germantown Athletic Club Commission, Personnel Advisory Commission and Retirement Plan Advisory Commission/OPEB, Alderman Ueleke plays a vital role in overseeing financial matters for the city.
Brian and his wife, Beth, have identical twin sons who keep them on their toes. Both Brian and Beth actively participate in the PTO and support GMSD and the Germantown Education Foundation.

Jon McCreery, elected in 2020, is currently in his first term as Alderman for Position 5. A Germantown native and a 1977 graduate of Germantown High School, he furthered his education by earning a Bachelor of Science in economics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Professionally, Jon has been the president and partner of a local construction company for over 30 years.
Throughout the years, Alderman McCreery has been deeply involved in volunteer positions in Germantown. He dedicated seven years to the
Germantown Youth Athletic Association board, where he served as chairman for five years. Additionally, he spent five years on the Aintree Farms Homeowners Association Board, serving as president for three years. McCreery's commitment to community extends to coaching numerous youth sports programs.
Before his election as Alderman, Jon McCreery was appointed to the Memphis and Shelby County Land Use Control Board, serving several terms spanning over 14 years. During his tenure, he held the position of chairman for seven years.
Currently serving as liaison to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Commission, Environmental Commission, Planning Commission and Technology Commission, Alderman McCreery plays a crucial role in addressing various aspects of community development.
Jon is married to his wife, Donna, and they have four sons—Brad, Kevin, Griffin and Cooper. The McCreery family has been active members of Hope Presbyterian Church for over 30 years.
