Home MenuStreets and Drainage
The Streets and Drainage Division maintains and repairs curbs and gutters, handicap access ramps, cross walks, street signs and surface roadway, in addition to seasonal maintenance and repair of 35 miles of concrete and earthen ditches. The Grounds Division is responsible for the maintenance of City-owned property, park lands and right-of-ways.
Street Division
There are nearly 220 miles of city streets and roads in Germantown. Except for Germantown Road and Poplar Avenue, which are maintained by Tennessee Department of Transportation, the Public Works Department maintains all roadways within the public domain of the City. Crews resurface eight to ten miles of pavement each year. Special emphasis is put on preventive maintenance to minimize potholes and cracking.
Major improvements to the roadways and intersections are planned and managed by the Economic and Community Development Department. Road projects are often a cooperative venture between the City of Germantown, Shelby County or State of Tennessee.

Storm Water Management
Public Works crews maintain drainageways along City streets and within City easements. Services include repairing sink holes over drain pipes and along lined ditches, pipe cleaning and preventative maintenance. Germantown is a Phase II storm-water city, requiring city-wide efforts to prevent pollution. Residents are urged to keep hazardous materials and trash out of the storm water system to protect the quality of the rivers and streams and to prevent flooding. The City accepts and recycles used automotive oil at the Public Services Complex, 7700 Southern Avenue.
Storm Drain Blockages
Report any storm drain blockage at (901) 757-7350 as soon as possible to prevent property damage. Homeowners are generally responsible for storm water management on their property.
