During a presentation at the annual Neighborhood Summit on Tuesday, April 25, the Neighborhood Traffic Task Force (NTTF) officially launched Slow Down G’Town. Slow Down G’Town is a campaign to help increase awareness of the City’s speed limit of 25 MPH on all minor streets.
“The ‘Slow Down G’Town’ campaign is a collaboration between the traffic task force, the City’s Engineering department, GPD and the City’s communications team,” said NTTF Chairman Rees Hodges. “The mission of the task force is to foster community engagement, raise awareness of speeding concerns and improve driving behaviors throughout Germantown for the safety of our citizens,” Hodges added.
The NTTF is composed of 15 Germantown residents and an Alderman liaison. Most of the residents on the task force had recently contacted the City regarding traffic concerns. Residents represent several neighborhoods throughout the community. Over the course of the last 10 months, task force members learned extensively about the City’s approach to traffic concerns, including the 3 E’s:
-
Engineering
-
Enforcement
-
Education
“Our City takes great pride in public safety, this is another example of looking out for our families, children, cyclists, runners and walkers throughout Germantown,” said Assistant City Administrator Andy Sanders.
There are yard signs available at City Hall for residents who would like to place one in their yard. Campaign logo clings for cars are also available at this time. Residents can also take the Pledge to Drive 25 and encourage their friends and neighbors to do the same. To take the pledge, visit Germantown-TN.gov/Drive25.
Throughout the summer months, the NTTF plans to raise awareness by working with the school district and attending various City events and neighborhood association meetings.
