Contractors MUST have a City of Germantown Business Tax License. This license allows contractors to legally work within the city.

The City's Engineering Department is here to help you smoothly navigate the construction process. To ensure a successful project and a well-built structure, obtaining the appropriate Engineering Permit is the first step for any new residential, commercial, or public right-of-way construction or demolition project within the City of Germantown.

Our Streamlined Permitting System:

We offer four distinct permit types to cater to various construction needs:

  • Grading/Stormwater Permit: This permit authorizes essential site preparation activities like leveling, excavation or filling. It ensures proper drainage and a solid foundation for your project. Required for new home construction, pools permits, retaining walls, irrigation and more.
  • Foundation Permit: Once the grading work is complete, a Foundation Permit allows you to begin constructing the foundation of your new structure. Required for new home construction.
  • Right-of-Way Permit: Working within the public right-of-way, including sidewalks, streets, driveways, or public easements? A Right-of-Way Permit keeps your project within City ordinances and minimizes disruption to public areas.
  • Demolition Permit: Demolition projects require a Demolition Permit. This ensures the safe and controlled execution of demolition activities.
