Contractors MUST have a City of Germantown Business Tax License. This license allows contractors to legally work within the city.

A stormwater/grading permit through the Engineering Department shall be required for all construction activities involving grading, earth-moving, and/or changing of elevation of property. Property improvements, including swimming pools, should not alter the natural or designed flow of lot drainage by increasing the velocity or concentrated flow of stormwater runoff, nor create in any way a negative impact on adjoining property. Any damage resulting as a result of such actions is the responsibility of the offending property owner.

Construction activities that generally require a stormwater/grading permit:

  • Homebuilding
  • Swimming Pool (Pool Permit)/Hot Tub
  • Patio additions greater than 50%
  • Landscaping/Irrigation
  • Drainage Improvements
  • Retaining walls higher than 4ft
