City of Germantown
Home MenuGermantown Greenway
More than 10 miles of a planned 22-mile trail system are complete, offering a paved pathway for walkers, runners and bicyclists. Sections are open along the Wolf River, beginning at Neshoba Park, and between Johnson Road Park and Houston Levee Park. Designed as a linear park, the Germantown Greenway will eventually encircle the City, linking parks, schools and neighborhoods. The Germantown Greenway is also a level one arboretum, featuring more than 25 different species of trees. This arboretum stretches from the Greenway trailhead at Cameron Brown to the Greenway trailhead at Kimbrough and Wolf River Boulevard.
Interpretive Stations along the Greenway |
Beaver Boondocks is located at the western area of the trail. It features a human-scale beaver lodge along with wooden beaver structures. An interpretative sign tells about the anatomy, behavior and engineering ability of these aquatic animals. This area is accessible from an adjacent parking lot. Rest rooms are located nearby. |
Bottomland Glen is an example of how trees can survive floods and wet conditions. A tree stump has been transformed into a learning station. Visitors can open the tree to learn more about animals that use the trees as a home. |
Turtle Bayou is a short walk down the rustic boardwalk to a dock, where visitors can watch turtles basking in the sunlight on fallen logs. Use the telescope to view other areas of the lake. |
River History Plaza is the central information location. It offers informative signs about the river and its history. There is also information about water quality improvements and how the Wolf River has been used by humans. Benches are provided.
