Got questions? Here are some frequently asked waste-related questions and their answers:

What carts does the City provide?
The City provides either a 64- or 96-gallon blue recycling cart. A 96-gallon green trash cart is available for all curbside collection customers. Additional curbside trash carts are available for a one-time usage fee of $75 and optional 96-gallon brown yard debris carts are available for a one-time usage fee of $75 each. These may be ordered by emailing CustomerService@Germantown-TN.gov or call (901) 757-7200. Customers will receive an invoice from Waste Pro. In the event that you move, even within the city limits, carts should remain at the residence. All carts belong to the City and stay with the address.

Can I use my own trash cart for curbside collection?
No. All Germantown curbside customers must use the City-issued 96-gallon green cart. Personal containers and carts from previous contractors may no longer be used. For residents who require more than one cart, there is a $75 one-time usage fee per additional cart that will be paid to the contractor. The fee must be prepaid to Waste Pro prior to cart delivery.

Is backdoor service available?
Yes. Backdoor customers may use their own containers as long as they are 45 gallons or less. When loaded, these must weigh less than 50 pounds. All trash must be secured in plastic garbage bags and placed inside the container. Material outside the container will not be collected at the backdoor. In the coming months, backdoor customers will have the option to order a 64-gallon trash cart at no extra charge.

What can I recycle? How should these items be placed in the cart?
A complete list of acceptable recyclable materials is available here. All acceptable materials may be mixed and should be placed loose inside the cart. Plastic bags and Styrofoam should never be placed inside your recycle cart.

I have a large amount of recycling. Can I get a larger recycle cart?
Yes. If you currently have a 64-gallon blue recycle cart you may request a 96-gallon recycle cart for a one-time $25 delivery fee, billed by Waste Pro. Residents can pick up a cart by contacting Customer Service at (901) 757-7200 or CustomerService@Germantown-TN.gov.

How much yard debris can I expect to be collected weekly?
Up to 10 cubic yards, or approximately 50 35-gallon bags, of yard debris will be collected from each residence each week. Yard debris not placed in a Waste Pro-provided 96-gallon brown yard debris cart must be contained in clear 35-gallon plastic bags weighing less than 50 pounds. Bags should never be placed in the street, but behind the curb instead. Limbs can be placed stacked behind the curb but must be cut to a maximum length of 6 feet and be no more than 12 inches in diameter. Residents will be responsible for the removal of debris that does not meet these limitations. Optional 96-gallon brown yard debris carts are available for a one-time usage fee of $75. Residents can pick up a cart by contacting Customer Service at CustomerService@Germantown-TN.gov or (901) 757-7200.

Will Waste Pro collect construction debris?
Yes. There is no change in the rules applying to construction debris. There is a limit of one cubic yard, about the size of a washing machine, of construction debris per week. Construction debris includes carpet, old fencing and other items. Such items as rocks, bricks, concrete, dirt, sand, etc. are not collected.

What should I do to have my non-hazardous appliances collected?
Items containing refrigerants such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners require certification from a licensed technician stating that the refrigerants have been removed. Once certification is received, email CustomerService@Germantown-TN.gov or call (901) 757-7200 to alert of these items.

Where do I place my cart?
Do not place trash carts in the street. Carts must be placed behind the curb no later than 7 a.m. on collection day. Remember – Handle to House! Carts must be placed facing the street with the handles facing toward the house. All trash must be bagged and fit inside the cart with the lid fully closed. Leave a 3-foot space between carts and obstructions like mailboxes, parked carts and utility poles.

What are your collection hours and holiday schedule?
Waste Pro will provide service on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Carts must be at the curb no later than 7 a.m. When a designated holiday occurs on a weekday, household collection occurs one day later than normal for the remainder of the week.
