Purpose
The Education Commission studies ways to enhance the quality of education. The Commission also provides recommendations and advice on positive school/community relations, school facilities, research and development capabilities of school system, activities for students and library services.

Meetings
Third Tuesday of each month (August through May) at 5:30 p.m. in the Lawton Conference Room at Germantown City Hall.

Members
The commission consists of 15 members appointed by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and includes Chairman Heather Fisher, Brenda Dew, Kyle Eaton, Katie Graffam, Chad Hammontree, Melissa Kandel, Manjit Kaur, Clark Kelman, Ellen Moak, Laura Riggins, Beth Robbins, Patricia Toarmina, GMSD Liaison Ryan Strain, Staff Liaison Stacey Crockett and Alderman Sherrie Hicks.

Awarding Outstanding Students and Teachers
Nominate a high school senior    Nominate a Germantown teacher
The commission honors a teacher and student each month during the school year. Winners are selected from those nominated by parents, students, teachers or school administrators. Youth Excellence Award winners must be a high school senior living in Germantown but can attend any school. Teacher of the Month award winners must teach in a public or private school within Germantown. Awards are presented monthly during meetings of the Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen. Sponsors are invited to participate in the award presentation.

Notice Regarding Electronic Meetings

All local governing bodies in the State of Tennessee have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Germantown is no exception.  In an effort to carry out its governance and operational responsibilities lawfully, and effectively, while also considering the protection of public health, safety and welfare, the Germantown City Administration has taken steps to conduct Board of Mayor and Aldermen and other public meetings electronically.  These actions were taken in response to Governor Bill Lee’s Executive Order No. 71, an order extending Executive Order Nos. 16, 34, 51, 60, and 65 which suspended the requirements of the Tennessee Open Meetings Act to the extent necessary to allow governing bodies subject to the act to meet and conduct essential business by electronic means.

 

The public will have access to the Design Review Commission Subcommittee meeting via real-time live audio.  For real-time live audio access, please call 1-701-801-6027.

 

The public will be able to view the video recording of the Design Review Commission Subcommittee virtual meeting within 48 hours of the meeting. To view the recording click https://www.germantown-tn.gov/government/city-boards-commissions/watch-live-or-archived-meetings .These measures are temporary, and are due to expire on February 27, 2021 unless further action is taken by Governor Lee.

The scheduled ending time for the meeting is an estimated time.

 

 The City of Germantown and the Design Review Commission encourage active participation and engagement with governing by making available public commenting for each item as part of the meeting agenda. Please send your submittals, 500 words or less, to DRCPH@germantown-tn.gov and must include your name, address and phone number. In the subject line, please write the agenda item number and project name (eg. 5A - Forest Hill Grill). All emails submitted by the scheduled meeting date, no later than 12 pm, will be delivered to the Board prior to the 6 pm Board Meeting.
